Last week, Indiana University School of Medicine dedicated its new Indianapolis facility: the Medical Education and Research Building (MERB). Myke Spencer, Class of 2026 president, spoke on behalf of students at the event. We’re thrilled to be able to welcome you to this state-of-the-art structure at the start of the upcoming academic year.

The first three floors of the 11-story complex are dedicated student spaces, with the eight floors above focused on research and administration. The second and third levels will house the Professional Learning Community suites. The link above provides more detail about the building’s features—and there are many. Rest assured: you’re going to love it.

Where is MERB?

The exact address is 350 West 14th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202. The building is west of Senate Avenue and south of 16th Street, near the IU Neurosciences Research Center.

MSE on the Move

Medical Student Education will move to MERB on the following dates:

  • May 1 – Student Affairs
  • May 2 – Lead Advisors
  • May 7 – Academic Records & Registrar
  • Mid-May – Financial Aid
  • June 3 – Operations, Curriculum, Educational Technology, and Grant Team

If you’re looking for a specific office, you’ll be able to find them here:

IU med student Myke Spencer speaks at a lectern at the MERB opening.Parking at MERB will be extremely limited for the next three months. But don’t worry—dedicated spaces for all Phase 1 students are secured for the fall. Stay tuned for more details.

In the meantime, we recommend reaching out to arrange your meetings with MSE staff and/or faculty in advance to determine the best location for your meeting.

Although MERB is complete, the surrounding area will remain an active construction zone through 2027. In addition to MERB, the site will eventually include the new IU Health downtown hospital and plans for an Indy Health District focused on creating healthier communities in the surrounding neighborhoods.

As with any major change, there will be a period of transition and adjustment — but this is an exciting milestone for all of us at IU School of Medicine and a fantastic cutting-edge building that we are thrilled to have as part of our school.

Please reach out to AskMSE with questions.
