IU School of Medicine is one medical school with nine campuses across the state of Indiana, making it the largest medical school in the United States. IU School of Medicine was a pioneer in the use of a multi-campus system to educate medical students. This brings incredible strength and diversity of experience to all learners. Modern Medical Education

Through IU School of Medicine’s MD curriculum, medical students benefit from a strong integration of basic science knowledge and clinical experiences. The curriculum also emphasizes interprofessional experiences, providing students opportunities to train alongside colleagues in other fields of medicine. The MD curriculum and supplementary programs such as the school’s Scholarly Concentrations ensure future physicians are prepared to succeed in the modern healthcare environment.

Reputable Residency

IU School of Medicine Graduate Medical Education programs provide a balance of primary, secondary, tertiary and inpatient quarternary care; ambulatory care; emergency care; and community health. This is possible through five main affiliate hospitals and many prestigious research and care centers on the Indianapolis campus and across the state that are staffed by IU School of Medicine faculty.

Advanced Research Training

IU School of Medicine offers a range of programs that lead to a Master’s degree or a PhD. Combined degree programs and doctoral minors are also available. The Graduate Division is the research arm of IU School of Medicine education programs and handles applications to the PhD, MS and certificates programs. Degrees are conferred by IU Graduate School.

Office of Educational Affairs

The Office of Educational Affairs provides support to meet the needs of students as they pursue their medical degrees. This office also serves faculty by providing resources and guidance for curriculum development, program assessment, student evaluation and learning technology. Led by Bradley L. Allen, MD, PhD, interim executive associate dean for educational affairs, the leadership team of the Office of Educational Affairs coordinates educational programs and support services, coordinates activities for Continuing Medical Education, counsels students, coordinates Graduate Medical Education activities, directs of the Office of Medical School Admissions, and oversees and directs educational programs for the IU School of Medicine Health Professions and Predoctoral Programs.

More than 1,400 students are enrolled in IU School of Medicine’s MD program, making IU the largest school of medicine in the United States. Another 350 students are working toward graduate degrees. In addition, the school supports more than 1,100 resident physicians and fellows in its graduate medical education program. IU School of Medicine alumni and faculty as well as practicing physicians throughout the United States benefit from the school’s continuing medical education offerings. In addition, students have the opportunity to earn complementary degrees and credentials—such as MD/PhD, MD/MPH, MD/MBA MD/MS or a Scholarly Concentration—that help future health care professionals bridge the gaps between medical care and related topics.

Medical Service Learning

The IU School of Medicine medical education program strongly encourages and provides many opportunities statewide for medical students to participate in medical service-learning and community service activities as part of their training. These structured learning experiences actively engage students, faculty and community members to intentionally connect community-identified concerns with institutional learning objectives.

Global Clinical Care

The school’s community engagement work is not limited to Indiana. The IU School of Medicine Global Health program includes work opportunities in Kenya, Honduras, Mexico and El Salvador for medical student clerkships and electives.
