Linda DiMeglio, MD, Indiana University School of Medicine professor of pediatrics, was inducted into the 2023 American Pediatric Society (APS) for her work in pediatric health.
DiMeglio, the only person from IU to be inducted into the society this year, was one of 95 new members nationwide. APS members are recognized child health leaders of amazing achievement who work together to shape the future of academic pediatrics. New members are nominated by current members through a process that recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves as child health leaders, teachers, scholars, policymakers and/or clinicians.
After graduating from Harvard University with honors, Dr. DiMeglio obtained her MD from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA and performed her residency in Pediatrics at Children’s Memorial Hospital (Northwestern University) in Chicago, IL. She completed her fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology and received her MPH from Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis.
As a fellow, DiMeglio became interested in working with children with chronic endocrine conditions, and specifically new and advanced technologies at hand for kids with diabetes. Since her fellowship, DiMeglio has been working in clinical research with a focus on type 1 diabetes prevention and treatments, including new technologies, and in therapies for metabolic bone disease.
“My aunt had type 1 diabetes. Even as a young child, I was curious about her condition and her care,” said DiMeglio. “As a pediatric resident, I enjoyed caring for the kids with new onset diabetes – managing their fluids and insulin and talking to the families.”
Founded in 1888, the APS is the first and most prestigious academic pediatric organization in North America. DiMeglio and other new members will be recognized during the APS Presidential Plenary on April 29 at the Pediatric Academic Societies 2023 Meeting.
“Becoming an APS member leads me to feel honored to be recognized as one of the leaders in academic pediatric health,” said DiMeglio.
