Dr. Alvaro Tori joined the IU School of Medicine faculty in 2007 after completing his training there. Dedicated to the academic mission, he focuses on teaching pediatric critical care in a family-centered care environment. He is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Riley Hospital at IU Health.

He’s enthusiastic about this position because it affords him the opportunity to increase representational diversity, as well as creating an inclusive and welcoming working and learning environment for all. He also uses strategic school programming to address health equity for all and cultural humility training. Mentoring a diverse group of students, residents, fellows and faculty Dr. Tori considers it a personal mission to influence the next generation of practitioners and ensure diversity among their ranks. His personal experience as both a native of Peru and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, enables him to truly understand the importance of addressing inclusive excellence and health equity in academic medicine and in the communities that we serve.

In his free time, Dr. Tori enjoys family activities with his husband, son and daughter and loves traveling back to Peru where he can share his Peruvian heritage.
