Bio
Dr. Kochhar serves as the Assistant Dean for Educational Affairs Data Analytics and Director of Research in Medical Education at the Indiana University School of Medicine. She holds joint appointments as Associate Research Professor in both the Department of Family Medicine and the Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology and Physiology. Dr. Kochhar earned her MBBS (equivalent to an MD) from Maulana Azad Medical College, University of Delhi, India, in 1994. Following medical school, she practiced as a House Surgeon in Delhi until 1999. She later completed a Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree from Indiana University in 2003.
Dr. Kochhar was selected as a Fellow of the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Program. She has held multiple national leadership roles, including International Committee Chair and a 3-year term as President of the Society for Directors of Research in Medical Education (SDRME); as well as Member-at-Large and Chair (3-year term) of The Generalists in Medical Education (TGME). In 2024, she was elected to a 4-year term as Chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges Central Group on Educational Affairs.

Dr. Kochhar brings over 20 years of experience in successfully managing and directing collaborative projects across clinical and basic science departments at the Indiana University School of Medicine, as well as with the Indiana State Department of Health. Her expertise spans educational research in both undergraduate and graduate medical education (UME/GME), physician workforce studies, health services research, program evaluation, educational outcomes assessment, community-based needs assessments, and strategic leadership in research administration.
Dr. Kochhar has secured continuous funding to support her work in health services research and medical education research, serving as a principal investigator or co-investigator on 68 funded grants and contracts garnering over $3.2 million. She has authored or co-authored 406 technical reports and 22 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, and she has presented her research at 132 local/regional, 45 national, and 4 international professional conferences.
