Bio
Dr. Kochhar is the Assistant Dean for Educational Affairs Data Analytics and the Director for Research in Medical Education. She is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Family Medicine, and an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology and Physiology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. She received her MBBS (MD) degree from Maulana Azad Medical College, University of Delhi, India in 1994. Upon completion of medical school, Dr. Kochhar served as a House Surgeon in Delhi until 1999. She obtained her master’s degree in health administration (MHA) from Indiana University in 2003.
Dr. Kochhar was selected as a Fellow in the Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Program by the Association of American Medical Colleges. She has served in several leadership roles in national societies including, Program Planning Committee Member, International Committee Chair, and a 3-yr term as President of the Society for Directors of Research in Medical Education; as well as the Program Co-Chair, Member-at-Large, and a 3-yr term as Chair of The Generalists in Medical Education. In 2024, Dr. Kochhar was elected to serve a 4-year term as Chair of The Association of American Medical Colleges Central Group on Educational Affairs.

Dr. Kochhar has 20+ years of experience successfully managing and directing projects in collaboration with clinical and basic science departments within the Indiana University School of Medicine, as well as the Indiana State Department of Health. Her areas of expertise include educational research related to both UME and GME, physician workforce studies, health services research, program evaluations, assessment of educational outcomes data, community-based needs assessments, and faculty development in educational research.
Dr. Kochhar has received continuous funding to support health services research and medical educational research, garnering over $3.1M as a principal investigator or co-investigator on 65 funded grants and contracts. She has authored or co-authored 422 technical reports and 22 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and has made presentations at 127 local / regional, 44 national and 3 international professional conferences.
