Dr. Komivi X. Womitso, MD, MBA is an Assistant Professor of Family medicine and Vice Chair for Wellness and Engagement for the Department of Family Medicine (DFM) at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He is a board certified family medicine physician affiliated with IU Health. He received his medical degree from the Université de Lomé in Togo; and completed his family medicine residency at Virginia Commonwealth University, St Francis Family Medicine Residency program. He received his MBA from Purdue University Global. In his role as Vice Chair of Engagement and Wellness for the DFM, he works with the Department Chair and the core leadership team to grow and sustain a culture of wellness for patients, staff, residents, and faculty in the DFM, a place where people continuously feel safe, connected, valued, recognized, and developed to meet our strategic goals.

Dr. Womitso practices primary care medicine with emphasis on behavioral modification to improve patients’ wellness and population health outcomes. Dr. Womitso is a strong advocate for community wellness in the USA and in Africa. He has directed and served on many medical missions in underserved communities. He has led community-based interventions, partnering with K-12 schools, universities, and churches to improve population health outcomes in underserved communities. Dr. Womitso has a strong passion for teaching, mentoring, inspiring and training the next generation of providers and healthcare professionals.

At the IUSM West Lafayette Campus, he serves as faculty member teaching FCP1 and FCP2 and as the Student’s Advocate. He is leading the community, culture and engagement (CCE) efforts of the campus and supports the CCE Student Interest Group.

Dr. Womitso’s clinical practice is located at the Dunlap Family Medicine Residency Program. He works alongside the Program Director and the rest of the faculty to promote the training of residents, the next generation of doctors.

Personal interests:

  • Music: I play guitar and keyboard in church.
  • Sport: I like playing soccer and other fun sports.
  • Mentoring, supporting, developing people and teams.
  • Traveling: Still exploring and learning about other cultures, medical missions, etc.
