Bio

Dr. Lauren D. Nephew is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Assistant Vice Chair of Health Equity at Indiana University School of Medicine. Her research focuses on understanding how social and structural determinants of health contribute to disparities in chronic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma outcomes, as well as developing interventions that advance health equity.

Dr. Nephew completed her Internal Medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by Gastroenterology and Liver Transplantation fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania. She earned a Master’s degree in Bioethics from Case Western Reserve University while completing medical school and a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania during fellowship training.

She is a health equity champion, wife, and mother of two.
