Dr. Ken Lim, MD, PhD, MPhil, FASN, FAHA, FRCP, is an American Physician-Scientist and Nephrologist. The mission of his work is to create potential solutions to challenging issues of humanitarian need in healthcare and human suffering through innovative research, academic entrepreneurship and the delivery of medical care beyond borders. Prior to joining the faculty at IUSM in 2020, he spent ~10 years at Harvard Medical School and affiliated major teaching hospitals. From 2018 – 2020, he was appointed Attending Physician at The Massachusetts General Hospital and a Faculty Member at Harvard Medical School. He is a graduate of The University of Cambridge (Christ’s College; MD, MPhil) and The University of Warwick (MB ChB, PhD) in England.
Dr. Lim is a clinical trialist and translational scientist with a clinical subspecialty interest in cardio-nephrology. His research expertise focuses on the development of functional endpoints for regulatory efficacy trials in nephrology, solutions to methodologic challenges in clinical trial design and translational strategies for taking biological discoveries into proof-of-concept human trials. He founded the first Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) laboratory dedicated to the study of patients with kidney disease in the United States. He leads a multi-disciplinary research group at IUSM that focuses on the development and delivery of definitive clinical trials in patients with kidney failure and cardiovascular complications, and the development of advanced peptide-based therapeutics.
He is the recipient of the University of Cambridge Ralph Noble Prize, the Genzyme-Sanofi Fellowship in Nephrology, the American Society of Nephrology Carl W. Gottschalk Research Scholar Award, the Young Physician–Scientist Award by the American Society of Clinical Investigation, full membership of the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society, and the Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ) Forty Under 40 Award among others. He has been named Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology (FASN), Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA) and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP). He was formerly on the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports by Nature Portfolio and is currently an Associate Editor of Kidney360 by the American Society of Nephrology. He has served as strategic advisor or consultant to leaders from diverse sectors, he has held offices of leadership on numerous boards and has appeared on various television and media programs.
