Bio

In addition to serving at the director of research for the IU Center for Global Health and North Amercian co-director of research for the AMPATH partnership, I am the Co-PI of the International Epidemiologic Databases to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA) East Africa Consortium. The majority of my research has been related to assessing the outcomes of antiretroviral rollout in sub-Saharan Africa. This has included assessing the risk of renal disease in HIV-infected Kenyan patients, outcomes of patients enrolled in care, task-shifting models within HIV care programs as well as evaluating the integration of prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV (pMTCT) interventions into HIV-care and treatment programs. East African IeDEA is one of 7 regional consortiums that have been constituted to explore the epidemiology of HIV-treatment implementation globally. For the East African Region this has included: assessing the trends in CD4 count at the start of antiretroviral therapy (ART); outcomes of pMTCT; issues related to loss to follow-up (LTFU); incidence and outcomes of Kaposi’s sarcoma in the ART-era; the issues related to pediatric and adolescent HIV; the impact of substance use and mental health on retention; and cervical cancer screening integration into HIV-treatment programs.
