Bio

Dr. Fernando Pellerano is an ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained retina specialist dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of retinal diseases.

Dr. Pellerano earned his Doctor of Medicine degree, graduating Summa Cum Laude, from Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) in the Dominican Republic. He completed his Preliminary Internal Medicine internship at Jacobi Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he was recognized as Intern of the Year. He then completed his Ophthalmology residency at the Indiana University School of Medicine, where he served as Academic Chief Resident. Following residency, he pursued advanced fellowship training in Retina and Vitreous diseases at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the No. 1 ophthalmology hospital in the nation.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Pellerano is a clinician-scientist committed to advancing ophthalmic care through research, innovation, and evidence-based medicine. He has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and has presented his research at leading national and international scientific meetings, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), and other major ophthalmic conferences.

Throughout his training and career, Dr. Pellerano has received numerous honors recognizing his dedication to patient care, education, and academic excellence. His distinctions include the Trainee Departmental Citizenship Award, the Red Shoes Award for Outstanding Family-Centered Care, selection as an IU IDREAM Scholar, and recognition as an ARVO Travel Grant Recipient

Dr. Pellerano is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He is dedicated to providing personalized care for patients with both common retinal conditions and complex, vision-threatening diseases.
