Bio
Owen McCabe, MD, FACS, currently serves as Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery in the Acute Care Surgery division. McCabe received his medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University. Prior to joining Indiana University, he completed a residency in General Surgery at Mercy Health – St Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care through the Creighton University School of Medicine-Phoenix program at Valleywise Health. He practiced as a Trauma Surgeon with the District Medical Group at Valleywise Health Medical Center from 2020 through 2024. He served as the Associate Program Director of the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship there beginning in 2022.
McCabes' clinical focus is acute care surgery, including trauma, critical care, and emergency general surgery. He has authored two peer-reviewed publications and contributed to several quality improvement projects and clinical practice guidelines. He is interested in trauma outcomes research, particularly traumatic brain injury. He also has a strong interest in surgical education and related research. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma.

Owen McCabe, MD, FACS, has past research areas that include outcomes in neurological injury, obstetric trauma, and rib fracture management. Moving forward, he will continue to be interested in trauma outcomes research broadly, with a particular interest in traumatic brain injury and surgical education.
As an acute care surgeon, McCabe continues to have a broad range of interests in trauma, critical care, and emergency general surgery. Particular areas of interest include the surgical management of abdominal wall injuries, spine exposures for neurosurgical procedures, management of shock, and neurocritical care, with a particular interest in traumatic brain injury.
