Bio

Dr. John Wilson, IV is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, one of the foremost training programs in the country. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Wilson completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, where he trained with Dean Toriumi, a renowned world leader in rhinoplasty, and Steven Dayan, a leader in facial aesthetics and injectables. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His background in psychology informs his patient-centered approach, emphasizing individualized care and clear communication throughout the surgical journey.
 
Dr. Wilson's clinical practice spans the full spectrum of facial plastic surgery. His expertise includes functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, and facial rejuvenation procedures such as facelift, brow lift, lip lift, and blepharoplasty. He also offers minimally invasive treatments including neurotoxins, dermal fillers, and facial fat transfer. Dr. Wilson specializes in complex reconstructive surgery, including facial reanimation for patients with facial paralysis, facial feminization surgery, and reconstruction following Mohs surgery.
 
Dr. Wilson's research focuses on leveraging technology to advance facial plastic surgery. His current work applies machine learning and computer vision to develop automated, objective assessment tools for facial paralysis, with the goal of improving diagnostic accuracy and tracking patient outcomes over time. He also investigates emerging techniques in facial aesthetics, including the use of platelet-rich plasma and exosomes to enhance skin rejuvenation. Dr. Wilson serves as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine, and is a member of the Editorial Board for Facial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine. He is committed to integrating innovation into clinical practice to enhance the quality of care for his patients.
 
Dr. Wilson is dedicated to medical education and was recognized with the Resident Teaching Award from the University of Illinois Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. He continues to mentor medical students and residents pursuing careers in otolaryngology and facial plastic surgery. Dr. Wilson is also committed to expanding access to surgical care globally. Through the AAFPRS Face to Face program and other humanitarian programs, he has participated in surgical missions to Tanzania and Kenya, providing reconstructive procedures and training local surgeons in cleft lip and palate repair and other head and neck techniques.
 
Originally from the Chicago area, Dr. Wilson is excited to join the Indiana University community and provide compassionate, personalized care to patients throughout the region. Outside of the clinic, he enjoys skiing, brewing, and cooking. He shares his home with his partner and their dog, and spends time at his family's hobby farm in Rockford, Illinois, where he tends a small vineyard.
