Chelsea Horwood, MD, MPH

Chelsea Horwood, MD, currently serves as Associate Trauma Medical Director for IU Health Medical Group and Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Horwood received her medical degree from Saint Louis University. Before joining Indiana University, she completed her residency training at The Ohio State University. During residency, she also earned a Master of Public Health degree with a focus on clinical and translational research from The Ohio State University College of Public Health. She completed a two-year fellowship in Surgical Critical Care and Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at Denver Health and the University of Colorado. Prior to joining the IU School of Medicine team, she spent two years in practice at Baylor University in Dallas, Texas.

Her clinical focus is trauma, acute care and critical care surgery. Horwood’s research focuses on clinical outcomes and systems-based safety. She has served as an investigator on more than 18 peer-reviewed publications.

Horwood is a member of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST), Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST) and American College of Surgeons (ACS). She also participates in multiple national committees.
