Bio
Michio Inoue, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor of neurology at the Indiana University School of Medicine and a physician-scientist with a background in pediatric neurology and muscle disease research. His laboratory studies how skeletal muscle maintains protein quality and how disruption of this process leads to inherited muscle diseases.
His research focuses on protein aggregate myopathies, particularly disorders caused by mutations in DNAJB4 and related molecular chaperones. Using disease models, molecular and cell biology, muscle physiology, and proteomic approaches, his group investigates the mechanisms that drive protein aggregation and selective muscle vulnerability.
Inoue completed his clinical and research training in Japan and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at Washington University in St. Louis. His long-term goal is to translate mechanistic discoveries into treatments for children and adults with currently untreatable muscle diseases.
