Janet A. Lydecker, PhD

Bio

Janet A. Lydecker, PhD, is a clinician-scientist specializing in eating disorders and weight-related concerns across the lifespan. Dr. Lydecker leads Indy Teen POWER, a research clinic developing and evaluating novel treatments for a variety of eating disorders and other weight-related issues. 

Dr. Lydecker’s research focuses on the prevention and treatment of eating disorders, particularly binge-eating disorder and bulimia nervosa, as well as weight stigma, weight-based bullying, and the intersection of eating disorders and higher weight. Her extensive scholarship, accomplishments, and leadership in the field have earned her recognition as a Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders. Dr. Lydecker is currently funded by an independent research grant from the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) for her project, “Cognitive and behavioral approaches to reduce binge eating and excess weight in adolescents (CARE²).”

Clinically, Dr. Lydecker provides outpatient psychological evaluation and therapy for children and adults with eating disorders, bullying, and weight concerns, developing collaborations with a variety of programs across IU Health. 

She earned her PhD in Counseling Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University, completed her clinical psychology internship in behavioral medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina, and completed postdoctoral training at Yale School of Medicine. Prior to joining IU, Dr. Lydecker was an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine and served as Director of Teen POWER.
