Bio
Angela Carbone, MD joined IU School of Medicine in 2000 as a Clinical Assistant Professor for the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is affiliated with several hospitals in the Indianapolis area including Eskenazi Health and St. Vincent’s Hospital. She joined the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana as a staff physiatrist September 2004. She is currently serving as the Medical Director and Director of Stroke Rehabilitation at RHI.
Dr. Carbone received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, Doctor of Medicine degree from Indiana University School of Medicine, and completed residency training at Northwestern University Medical School, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. She is a board certified specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Her special interests include neurologic and neuromuscular rehabilitation, as well as cancer and palliative rehabilitation. She has expertise in the rehabilitation of stroke, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury, and the non-surgical treatment of low back and neck injuries and other musculoskeletal injuries involving the upper and lower extremities.
Dr. Carbone is an active member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Association of Academic Physiatrists. She has received numerous awards, authored several manuscripts and publication articles, and serves on various hospital committees.
Recently, she has become involved with a global health group to help bring up to date stroke rehabilitation to Lima, Peru. She feels extremely blessed to be part of such a dynamic group of highly intelligent and motivated professionals that are committed to helping developing countries care for their loved ones and improve functional outcomes and lessen burden of care.
When she is not at work, she is busy helping to raise her four children with her husband, Joe. Her family enjoys boating, hiking, Notre Dame football and IU basketball. She is an avid reader with special interest in historical fiction. She loves all types of music.
