Why I chose Family Medicine: I chose family medicine because I found there is a growing moral responsibility in the call for the generalist in a world that pushes for the further production of specialists. The world needs specialists, but in collectively training for depth in our healthcare system, we are continually sacrificing training for breadth. The principal advantage of breadth is in developing a bird's eye perspective that is able to spot problems that only exist across multiple systems which might not otherwise be detectable. It also gives one license to study and tackle aspects of health that may feel unsuitable for conversation in a specialty office, such as sleep, mental health, nutrition, psychology, and exercise science. Generally, in modern medicine, we are excellent at treating acute conditions and stabilizing even highly critical patients. However, we are nowhere near as well-suited to effectively treat chronic conditions. I wanted to challenge myself to understand the art and science of navigating the treatment and management of patients with these conditions and push the needle forward for effective chronic and preventive care in my own small way.

Why I chose the IU Health Primary Care Central Indianapolis Family Medicine Residency Program: I chose IU because they are passionate about providing a diverse array of educational opportunities to residents so that they can tailor their education in the way they would like to practice medicine in the future. They are supportive in helping transform a resident's philosophy of care to real world practice. 

Personal interests and hobbies: I love playing the piano, and have been doing so for over 20+ years. I also love reading fiction and books on science, medicine, and philosophy, writing, learning the guitar, going to live comedy shows, and language learning.
