Bio
Why IU Triple Board: I believe children deserve perfection. Unfortunately, children and adults experience/witness trauma in many forms. As someone who has faced adversity, I pride myself in my ability to understand and remain compassionate towards?innocent souls in a cruel world. Triple Board Residency seemed like the perfect opportunity to train to become a unique physician who can help children develop physically and mentally, as well as to take care of the mental health needs of people of all ages. ?IU, especially?Riley Children’s, a stand-alone children's hospital that manages children over a wide geographical area, seemed like the perfect place to gain experience in a plethora of situations and diagnoses. The population of Indianapolis is also diverse, including many refugee communities and a significant Black population that reminds me of my hometown of Fayetteville, NC.? Any involvement (tracks, leadership positions):? Peds Medical Student Education Committee? Highlights you’ve enjoyed thus far: A busy day in my second year where I had Inpatient Psychiatry at Methodist, afternoon Peds Clinic, and CIU call in the evening (not typical). This was a day I was able to see the vast abilities I had gained over such a small time in training and was able to experience the range of patients I could interact with and take care of.? ? Future career plans: I’m still a baby in the grand scheme of things. I have enjoyed my Child Psychiatry Consults rotation the most so far. I enjoy treating and speaking to our patients struggling with disordered eating, as well as children on the hospitalist service who have had intentional ingestions. Because of these interests, future involvement in a Medical Behavioral Unit may be a possibility. I also enjoy outpatient?pediatrics and emergency psychiatry. For my future, an amalgam of all of the above would be an ideal choice.
