Research

Research in the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Pharmacology enhances our understanding of the biochemical and molecular bases of cancer, diabetes, obesity, neurological disorders, addiction, infectious diseases, cardiovascular disease and alcohol use disorder — all areas of expertise at IU School of Medicine. A large part of the department's research focuses on studying chemical and drug interactions in living systems, aiding the development of new therapies and treatment strategies. We take pride in our extensive research collaborations with other departments and centers at the school.

Research Facilities

Faculty and trainees have access to modern research facilities and advanced instruments — including cryo-electron microscopy and mass spectrometry — and most are affiliated with one or more of the school’s major research centers, including the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Disease, the Stark Neurosciences Research Institute, and the Indiana University Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center.
