MD Class Selection

Applicants are selected utilizing a holistic process that considers the applicant’s broad educational background, including scholarship, character, personality, references, MCAT, altruism and personal interview. Indiana University is a state school, but a number of nonresidents are offered acceptances annually.

Applicants who interview at IU School of Medicine and do not receive an acceptance are encouraged to contact the Office of MD Admissions for consultation and reapply.

IU School of Medicine Admissions Office sends acceptance letters on the 15th day of each month of the application period. Other decision notifications are sent periodically. All applicants will receive a decision notification by June. Applicants who wish to accept the admissions offer must respond, in writing within 14 days. No deposit is required to hold an accepted position in the incoming class.

Admission Tasks

Before a new medical student is eligible to matriculate with the first-year class at IU School of Medicine, the following admissions tasks must be complete within the number of days specified following receipt of the Letter of Acceptance:

• Return decision letter: 14 days
• Acknowledge the technical standards: 30 days
• Rank campus preferences: 30 days
• Return Academic and Legal Disclosure Forms: 30 days
• Complete background check after acceptance by AMCAS affiliate, Certiphi.
• Submit final transcripts with posted date of graduation: June 28

Acceptance and Withdrawal Guidelines

October–April Acceptance Notifications	Applicants who wish to accept an IU School of Medicine admission offer must respond in writing within 14 days from the date of the acceptance letter (non-binding).
Feb. 21	Plan to Enroll option is available for accepted applicants on the AMCAS website. Accepted applicants may hold multiple acceptance offers.
April 15	AMCAS Protocol recommends accepted applicants narrow to three acceptance offers.
May 1	Commit to Enroll option is available for accepted applicants on the AMCAS website. This indicates a commitment to attend a medical school. Plan to Enroll option remains available. **Applicants accepted to Indiana University School of Medicine must select Indiana as "Plan to Enroll" by May 1 or the acceptance offer will be rescinded.   **All students who wish to matriculate to IU School of Medicine must select "Commit to Enroll" no later than July 1. All students must manually change their status to "Commit to Enroll" when the status is made available.  Failure to comply with the July 1 "Commit to Enroll" deadline may result in withdrawal of the acceptance offer. **IU School of Medicine requirements and policy.
