Eligibility Criteria for Fellowships in Orthopaedic Surgery

An applicant with one of the following qualifications is eligible for appointment to IU School of Medicine accredited training programs:

  • Graduate of medical school in the United States or Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
  • Graduate of college of osteopathic medicine in the U.S. accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)

Our Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery and Scoliosis Fellowship may also consider applicants who meet these criteria:

  • Graduate of medical school outside the U.S. or Canada who meets one of the following qualifications:
    • Has received a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates prior to appointment
    • Has a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. licensing jurisdiction in which they are training
  • Graduate of medical school outside the U.S. who has completed a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical school

J-1 is the preferred visa for IU School of Medicine GME training.

All employment offers extended to individuals who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents must be contingent upon the applicant's ability to secure an appropriate visa and corresponding employment authorization to work in the U.S.
