Child Psychiatry Track

The Psychiatry Residency program in Indianapolis offers a child psychiatry fast-track option. The department’s integrated relationship with the Department of Pediatrics and Riley Children's Hospital, one of the nation's leading pediatric hospitals, provides an ideal setting for residents pursuing a career in child and adolescent psychiatry. Through the fast-track option, residents will complete adult psychiatry training with enhanced pediatric exposure in three years, and then transition to our Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship training for the remaining two years of training.

Fast-track residents enjoy the significant advantage of avoiding an additional application cycle for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship and greater opportunities for longitudinal patient relationships, research projects and faculty mentoring throughout their five years of training.

PGY 2

Twelve months of subspecialty rotations at multiple sites, including:

• Riley Children's Hopsital
• Eskenazi Hospital/Midtown Mental Health Inpatient Unit
• IU Health Methodist Hospital
• Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center 

PGY 3  

Adult outpatient continuity clinics with opportunities for child and adolescent psychiatry clinics, including:

• Child and adolescent psychiatry outpatient clinics (e.g., gender health, family based treatment, tics and anxiety, disruptive behavior disorders, substance use disorder and neurodevelopmental disorders)

• Transitional age youth focused care: psychotherapy and programs including PARC (prevention and recovery center for early psychosis) 

PGY 4 and 5

Training continues in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship.

Five Year Overview

• Assigned child and adolescent psychiatry faculty mentors starting in PGY 1

• Research opportunities with child and adolescent faculty psychiatrists

• Community outreach opportunities

• Lectures, events and conferences offered by the categorical psychiatry program, child and adolescent psychiatry training program and pediatrics program
