Questions?

If you have questions about any student requirements, please email askhpp@iu.edu.

Background Check and Drug Screen

Please do not complete the background check and drug screen until you have officially been admitted to a Health Professions Program. Once you have accepted a position within a program, you may proceed with contacting Castle Branch to register for a background check and drug screen.

The requirement to complete a drug screen is not a school policy, but meets requirements as outlined in the school's clinical affiliation agreements with our various clinical partners. The drug screen is a 10-panel urine test.

New students
Within 10 days of receiving acceptance from your program, contact Castle Branch to register for a drug screen and background check. Use package code "IC91" for the rate of $95.75. You will place this code in the Place Order box at the top right corner of the screen.

Returning students
Prior to the start of your program, you must contact Castle Branch to register for a drug screen and background re-check. Enter package code number "IC91re" for the re-test rate of $60.

Medical Imaging Technology only
Returning medical imaging technology students who have internships with a clinical site or will be doing their clinical rotation while also fully employed at that site can provide a copy of their work-related background check and drug screen to meet this requirement. Please send proof of background check and drug screen to askhpp@iu.edu no later than 10 days prior to the start of your program. If you are not in an internship or employed in this manner, please proceed with the background check and drug screen as instructed above.

If you do not receive your results from the company within 8-10 days, particularly the drug screen result as this takes more time, please contact Castle Branch immediately. Our office will see the results online. You do not need to contact us regarding these results. If there is a problem, we will contact you.

Immunizations and Health Screen

Both new and returning students must provide proof of a health evaluation (physical). This form should be completed and signed by IU Indianapolis Campus Health or your primary care provider no later than June 1. If you will be using an outside provider, please use the same form and email it to Campus Health at healthsv@iu.edu. This form should not be submitted to the HPP office as this violates HIPAA regulations. You should have also submitted your immunization information upon acceptance into IU Indianapolis. If this has not yet been done, you will also need to submit proof to Campus Health.

The required health evaluation and immunization forms at included in the Health Requirement Packet below. Please print these forms and take them with you to your appointment at Campus Health.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

The following programs require students to obtain and maintain a valid BLS certification throughout your time in the program.

  • Diagnostic Sonography
  • Medical Imaging Technology (clinical only)
  • Nuclear Medicine Technology
  • Paramedic Science
  • Radiation Therapy
  • Radiography
  • Respiratory Therapy

There are many different organizations that offer various levels of training; however, we require the American Heart Association's BLS certification, which is tailored to health care providers.

This certification cannot be completed online and must be scheduled as an in-person class taught by a registered BLS instructor with the American Heart Association. Our programs will not accept any other type of certification, and you will only be allowed to attend clinical rotations with the correct certification.
