MedNeuro Admissions — PhD

Admission to the Medical Neuroscience Graduate Program at Stark Neurosciences Research Institute is processed through the Indiana BioMedical Gateway (IBMG) Program, a common open enrollment/gateway system at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Application Deadlines

Priority deadline for students interested in beginning work in the PhD program each fall is Nov. 1. The final application deadline is Dec. 1.

Apply for PhD Training

PhD Admissions is processed through the IBMG Program. The deadline to apply for the Medical Neuroscience PhD is Dec. 1 of each year.

Application Materials

Application fee totals $70 and is non-refundable.

Scores should be sent to IU Indianapolis using institution code 1325. The GRE is not required as part of the application.

All applicants, including United States citizens, are required to show English proficiency. This can be completed a number of ways, including TOEFL exam, IELTS exam and a degree issued from within the U.S.

Official transcripts from all universities attended must be submitted from the educational institute. Official copies from the registrar may be accepted for the review process; however matriculates must have an official transcript on file.

The personal statement must be brief, between one to two pages. The statement should emphasize the applicant’s research experience, specifically the hypotheses underlying the experimental work and the broader significance of the results. Briefly describe the experimental approach and avoid simply listing laboratory techniques employed. Indicate fields of research that you would like to pursue at the IU School of Medicine, including faculty whose work interest you. Briefly explain any gaps, problems or inconsistencies in your academic or professional records, e.g. grade(s) lower than a “B”, time away from studies or employment, etc.

Three letters of recommendation must be submitted with an application for this graduate program.

Applicants must answer supplemental questions as part of the application in WebAdmit.

Applicants must provide proof of participation in a recruitment programs. If applicable, this would be a letter from the Director of the programs such as McNair, LSAMP, Herbert Fellows, Bridges to the Doctorate, AmeriCorps, etc.

Admissions Committee

The Indiana Biomedical Gateway Program (IBMG) Admissions Committee, together with the Medical Neuroscience Graduate Program team at the IU School of Medicine, evaluates applications as they are complete, including scores and letters of recommendation. Strong applicants are invited to visit Indianapolis for an interview where all travel costs and expenses are covered by the IU School of Medicine.
