Urology residents have opportunities to be involved in basic science, clinical and surgical research projects throughout their residency. Many urology teaching faculty have national and international statures and work closely with residents in the research process. Areas of focus include cancer, reconstruction, pediatrics, stone treatments and more.
The Department of Urology is part of the American Urological Association and has databases in testis cancer, prostate cancer, laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery. All residents are expected to work on one project per year for publication or submission to regional and national meetings. Residents are also given two three-month flex rotation in the third and fourth years, and most of this time is used for research.
