The Pediatric Fourth Year Advanced Nutrition Fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine is one of only a few programs of its kind in the United States. This one-year fellowship offers a comprehensive clinical experience across all facets of pediatric nutrition, guided by core faculty recognized both nationally and internationally. Fellows develop the specialized expertise needed for successful careers in patient care, research and medical education.

Clinical and translational research is integrated into the training program to promote the trainee’s preparation for active participation in academics. Fellows design their own research projects based on personal interests with guidance from faculty mentors.
The fellowship is clinically intensive, ensuring proficiency in all nutrition procedures and protocols. This includes the evaluation of growth and nutritional status, management of complex malnutrition and oversight of enteral and parenteral nutrition (PN). Fellows also participate in weekly multidisciplinary nutrition support rounds for inpatients with critical nutritional needs. Training primarily occurs at Riley Hospital for Children and IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Fellows benefit from a statewide referral base with a large and diverse clinical volume in a highly skilled teaching environment. Additionally, fellows have access to special academic opportunities during their training, which include but are not limited to: programs for master's degrees in clinical or translational research and public health; Academy of Teaching Scholars Program; and a global health curriculum for clinical and research initiatives.
