Neonatal Tele-resuscitation

Sept. 10, 2026
Abhishek Makkar, MD; Jennifer Fang, MD, MS; and Rachel Umoren, MD

Neonatal tele-resuscitation extends neonatal expertise to community hospitals without on-site neonatology support. Using real-time audio-visual communication, specialists can guide teams during high-risk deliveries, improving adherence to Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) practices, team performance and early clinical decision-making. Despite growing interest, many institutions face challenges in developing sustainable programs.

This interactive workshop provides a practical framework for implementing tele-resuscitation services. Experienced faculty will review key evidence and outline essential steps, including needs assessment, stakeholder engagement, technology selection, workflow design, team training and evaluation.

Participants will apply these concepts through small-group case scenarios and high-fidelity simulation of delivery room emergencies, followed by structured debriefing. By the end of the session, participants will gain practical tools to establish or expand tele-resuscitation programs and enhance delivery room care across regional networks.
