Computational Genomics and
Genomic Technology

The Division of Computational Genomics and Genomic Technology brings together experts in computational biology, statistical genetics, functional genomics and advanced genomic technologies to understand the genetic and molecular basis of human health and disease. By integrating large-scale genomic and multi-omics data with artificial intelligence, machine learning and innovative experimental approaches, our faculty translate complex biological data into discoveries that advance precision medicine.

About the division

Our research spans gene regulation, cancer, neurological disorders, addiction, aging and musculoskeletal health. Areas of expertise include population and multi-ancestry genomics, biobank research, genetic epidemiology, single-cell and spatial omics, epigenetics, long-read sequencing and computational pathology. This breadth allows the division to connect genetic variation with molecular function, disease mechanisms and clinical outcomes.

Division faculty lead major collaborative research and technology resources across Indiana University School of Medicine, including the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Center for Medical Genomics, cancer bioinformatics, the Transgenic Animal Core and bioinformatics for the Indiana Center for Musculoskeletal Health. Through these programs, the division provides campus-wide leadership in genomic technologies, bioinformatics and data science while supporting interdisciplinary research from study design and data generation through analysis and biological interpretation.

Education and mentorship are central to our mission. The division leads the Computational Genetics Track in the Medical and Molecular Genetics PhD program, preparing the next generation of scientists to develop and apply rigorous computational, statistical and genomic approaches to biomedical research.
