The IU School of Medicine Department of Surgery is committed to the education and training of medical students, residents and fellows. Both residency and fellowship training programs are available for each of the six divisions within the department. Four residency training programs, eleven fellowship programs, and two Transition to Practice programs provide outstanding opportunities for learners to become surgeon leaders.
The department’s teaching faculty includes both generalist and specialists that provide broad-based surgical training in the fields of general surgery, trauma, cardiothoracic, congenital cardiac, thoracic transplant, abdominal transplant plastic, craniofacial, burns, transplant, colon-rectal, minimally invasive, hepatic-biliary-pancreatic, critical care, acute care, and pediatric surgery.
Clinical Sites
Primary training sites for surgical rotations include Riley Hospital for Children, IU Health Methodist Hospital, St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital, Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, St. Vincent Hospital, IU Health North, IU Health West and Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital—all located in Indianapolis.
