Pediatric Residency Alumni

Upon graduation, IU School of Medicine pediatric residents successfully compete for top fellowship, faculty and practice positions throughout the United States. Graduates choose a variety of pediatrics careers, including positions specializing in cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neonatal-perinatal medicine, palliative care, health services research, critical care medicine, hematology/oncology, pulmonary, rheumatology, international medicine and more.

Salary and Benefits

  • Indiana University has an on-campus childcare center and some daycares offer IU School of Medicine staff discounts
  • IU also offers a premium membership to Care.com which allows residents to find childcare, adult care, pet care, and home care. It also covers up to 15 days of subsidized backup care per year at $6/hour for in-home care and $15/day for in-center care.

  • Residents receive health and dental insurance with no monthly premiums for resident’s fellows, their spouses, and families 
  • Indiana University School of Medicine provides free professional liability (malpractice) insurance for residents throughout the duration of their training

  • Both coverage of fees and protected time for residents to complete initial certification and recertification in NRP, BLS, PALS, and ACLS

Each resident receives four weeks of paid vacation plus five additional days off for a holiday observance of their choice.

Upper level residents are regularly offered shifts for pay that help support coverage needs during scheduling aps or periods of increased patient volume. Camp Riley is also an opportunity for all residents to make some extra money!

  • While on inpatient rotations, residents received free catered lunch during noon conference four days per week.
  • Residents also receive a quarterly stipend to spend on campus in the cafeteria or at the on-campus Starbucks.
  • During inpatient rotations (X blocks) residents receive one wellness half-day to accommodate appointments, errands or other activities that support their well-being.
  • IU School of Medicine provides free and confidential counseling services to residents
